Coins soaked in Biox,
a chemical made by Renwax for about 7 hours. Further soaking ate the rest
of the remaining crud away. Biox will not damage the metal itself, but eats
away the dirt, encrustation and patina away. It also leaves the coin with
this nasty orangish pink coloration. It will also (at least from these experiments)
reveal the natural pitting from erosion on the coin. Even after buffing
and repatina'ing the coin with Jax, they were still noticably pitted. I
am not sure where the coins are currently, so can't show a final scan. Biox
is not something I would use in the future most likely. The only use I have
really found for it is to remove Renwax, in short 3-5 minute soaks. But
I also have found that short electrolysis sessions will remove Renwax as
well, and in my eyes, electrolysis is not as potentially harmful as Biox. |
