| The coins have
soaked for about a week in the carpet cleaner. As you can see, alot of dirt
has been removed. But also, this stuff eats patina. The smaller coin was
green, it now has a milk chocolate brown patina. Perhaps it somehow just
chemically changed the color? Along the rim of the larger coins, this brown
can be seen in spots as well. The cleaner will also turn the coins a bluish
color... but this can be removed with a silver brush, toothbrush with soap,
or even a soft nylon dremel brush. The top left coin is still heavily encrusted,
but it is somewhat softer and can be partially prodded. As a soaking agent, this is a failure. But... I think it might be useful for an overnight soak prior to soaking in distilled water, since it did indeed lose alot of dirt over the first day. |
