LIQUID WRENCH

Here are two encrusted coins, and one dirty coin. The Constantine is from the the Mineral Oil experiment, the dirty coin is fresh from an order, and the Radiate I found while trying to figure out why my speakers didn't work. Coins begin at 8.0 grams on 12/26. I'll check them in a week or so.

I experimented with penetrating oils when I first started, but didn't take any photos, nor do I really remember what it did.

1/9/06

The top middle coin has very little detail, but the dirt seems to have been removed. The coins have an oily finish, that I was unable to wash off. Coins now weigh 8.0 grams.

Coins are a bit darker than before (the before scan was done with the old scanner, which made everything look a lot greener than it actually was). Details are more visible, but not too much of a difference on the reverses.

After a toothbrushing with Crest:

Toothpaste doesn't cut through the oil very well, will have to boil them to remove the oil. Still weigh 8.0g.

Encrustation seems softer, and "flakes" from the Aurelian Ant. Going to just soak them for a couple more weeks to see what happens.

2/03

Coins now weigh 7.95 grams. I did some scraping after I took the photo- some of the dirt came off of the small coin, some encrustation came off of the ant's obverse, and some chunks broke off of the follis- but this doesn't seem to be too exciting- and certainly not fast.
