POCKET CHANGE

Here's an experiment to make most shudder. I am going to put these two crusties into my pocket with my pocket change.

I got this idea while looking at a bracelet that I bought a couple weeks ago, and have been wearing it ever since. The bracelet had some encrustations on it. After two weeks, most of the encrustations have worn smooth, revealing the smooth black patina underneath.

Why wouldn't simple wear on a coin work likewise?

Coins begin 11/20/05 at 6.8 grams and are around 6 mm thick.

I'll update every couple days or so.

11/21/05:

Coins still weigh 6.8g, but some has indeed come off, mainly along the rims.

11/23/05

Coins now weigh 6.7g. Encrustation is gradually being removed, and shined.

11/26/05

Coins weigh 6.5g. Here's a scan:

12/02

Coins weigh 6.4g. The thickest part is now 5.2 mm.

12//11

Coins weigh 6.3g. The thickest part is now 5.15 mm. And a quick scan:

A slow process, but I might as well keep these coins in my pocket for another month or two, and see what happens.

12/26

Coins now weigh 6.3g. The thickest part is 5.1 mm, and it looks like a large chunk has broken off the smaller coin. I'm starting to see some details, and the larger coin may be a fouree... I can see two outer layers, which look like silver, and a middle layer that looks like copper, along the rim. Back in my pocket.

1/27/06

After another month, the coins weigh 6.1 grams. The thickest part is 4.9 mm. I'm pretty sure the larger coin is a fouree, I can see silvering and copper, and it seems too thick for an Ant. These coins have a long ways to go- probably another year lol. I'll stick with it.
