TROPIC SOLVE

I bought this from a door to door salesman of all things- proceeds went to a child with leukemia. He demonstrated it on my car, and it worked wonders.

Ingredients are D'Limonene, sodium meiasilicau, water softeners and surficants and penetrating agents. It's all natural and non-toxic... though you shouldn't drink it.

These three coins will be soaked in a roughly 32:1 mixture with water (which is the recommended ratio for most cleaning).

They start at 5.1 grams, and are just as I received them.

These coins will be soaked in straight cleaner. They start at 7.5 grams. As in the above picture, the coin on the bottom is encrusted. These are also as I received them, for the exception of the encrusted coins- they've soaked in distilled water.

Coins have soaked for about 40 hours. I've brushed them with toothpaste. The coins in the straight cleaner are now 7.2 grams, a loss of 0.3g. The other set is now 5.1grams- no loss. But one must also remember that the coins were dry- so water gain is quite possible as well.

The encrusted coin in the straight solution is easier to work with. The encrustation will come off now, with a little bit of work. See the area in the upper right corner of the photo on the left.

I tried to remove some dirt on the smallest coin- and it came off relatively easy. I only tried a small portion of the coin.

I see no loss of patina on any of the coins.

I'm going to throw them back in, and I'll try to remember to update in a couple days.

The lot in the straight cleaner is still 7.2 grams. Encrustation broke away on a small portion of the encrusted coin while toothbrushing. I'm not sure, but there might be patina loss on the small gloria exercitvs. Otherwise, no real changes.

The other set is still 5.1 grams. Basic dirt seems to be relatively easy to remove with a pin. See pic of the smallest coin's bust. The top layers come off very easy at least. No loss of patina.

I'm going to let them soak for awhile, and come back in a couple weeks.

Well, it hasn't been a couple weeks. I took them out again today. Dirt is easier to remove, but the encrustation isn't.

Straight solution:

Mixture with distilled water:

While watching tv, I spent 3-4 minutes on each coin with my pin, and silver brushed the coins.

Straight:

And solution:

Patina still seems intact. I'll let these go for a week or so.

02/23

The coins in the straight cleaner are now 7.1g- so a loss of 0.1g, Patina still seems intact. This seems to have little, or no effect, on encrustations. The masses on the neck of the gloria exercitvs, as well on the right obverse legend, are actually encrustation- that nasty, hard orange stuff that I have so much problems with. The dirt on the top left coin is amazingly hard to remove now; as

well as on the gloria exercitvs. Somehow- after the longer soak- it is making the dirt more "hard". It was a lot easier to remove a couple weeks ago. ODD

And the coins in the 32:1 solution- they weigh 5.1g still. Dirt is easier to remove than on the above coins, but seems harder than before as well. I'm calling this one done- I don't like the way it's heading... though patina still seems intact.

All in all- it wasn't a dismal failure, and looked promising in the beginning.

I'm going to boil some coins in the 32:1 solution, and let soak in distilled water for a couple days. Hopefully I'll get to this soon.
