CROCKPOT II
Here are the coins after a hit with the toothbrush. Coins have soaked just under 1 week (5 or 6 days) total. I also hit them with the silver brush.
This experiment was a mixed success. It pretty much removed most of the dirt and left the patinas on some intact. Other coins; it ate the patina or changed the color oddly.
I would guess that this was from the washing soda, since I have never used it with heat nor have I had any ill effects.
My next experiment will just be distilled water and maybe a couple drops of dish soap.
I truly believe that there is something here to discover.
The two small coins are culls, the small oval looks like a cull. There is still a tarlike substance on the large oval radiate and the mid size black coin. The fel temp cleaned up well, and the Islamic doesn't look too bad, even though the patina has been eaten. The Gloria coin has a whitish-green encrustation on it still, and the provincial or Greek still has a bit of dirt on it, that even the DDDP barely scratches.
This definitely warrants more experiments.
The scan is making these coins look real grainy for some reason. They are not grainy... maybe I need to clean my scanner screen. *shrug*
