FOAMING CARPET CLEANER
I walked through the local Wally World and grabbed some items to try.
Here, we are experimenting with Great Value Foaming Carpet Cleaner.
I have heard that some have had success with items such as this... so at 99 cents, I thought I'd give it a try.
The two larger coins are heavily soiled, and each seem to have encrustation. One also has a quartzlike material, which I have found that often times means a "tough" type of dirt to remove.
The smaller coin has light sand and a darker mud attached. The green patina seems to be solid.
Going to spray the coins in a heavy coat and let them sit in a closed container for a couple days, see what happens.
After a couple hours of soaking, alot of dirt has been removed and loosened. I have shook the container a couple times. The green patina is intact on the top right coin so far. This could hold some promise. One must remember to use a larger container for this... they didn't lie when they said foaming.
After 6 hours of soaking, considerable dirt has been loosened. Encrustations are being loosened too. Spent perhaps 1 minute with a dddp on the top right coin; it's about done. Either this is eating the patina, or the top right coin has a fake patina. A layer of green is flaking off, but is revealing a dark green patina underneath. This still holds alot of promise, unless the patinas are eaten.
After soaking overnight, more dirt has been removed. Bottom right coin is pretty well encrusted under the dirt. Patina seems to be being stripped from the top right coin. Top left coin is still pretty dirty, but it's coming. Will stick with it, to see what happens. Oh, by the way... this stuff smells like urine.
Considerable amount of dirt has come off. Patina seems to be being removed on top right coin (see around rim) . Odd bluish/greyish/silverish tint coming from top left coin (scan is near true in color). Considerable amount of encrustation left on bottom coin. Throwing them back into soak... This is about 30 hours of soaking. (see scan below)
After 2 more days of soaking. Considerable amount of dirt removed, encrustation is softening and dissolving. If the patina was intact on top right coin... it's pretty much gone now, and leaving a flat brown durface, which isn't all that displeasing. More updates in the future...
