I have seen
a couple references to using mineral oil as a soaking medium. I have seen
some after scans, and it looks like the coins came out pretty nicely. There
were no before scans, and no reference in the time involved though. So,
I looked up some livestock websites, and found a gallon of mineral oil for
around $13 ppd. I'll check them in a week or so. Here's the before scans
of coins that I just received today. They are "normal" quality,
so have a good assortment of different soils, encrustations etc. A mad scientist's
perfect test subjects! |
